The NPS Amateur Radio Club Volunteer Exam Team provides examination sessions for Amateur Radio license exams four times per year. The exam schedule for this year is shown below.
We provide exams for all three classes of the FCC Amateur Radio License. Exams are normally held on Saturday mornings and require about two hours to complete the exam and required paperwork. This process can take longer depending on the number of applicants we have at an exam session.
The Federal Government requires that you provide your Social Security Account Number or Taxpayer ID Number to any agency from which you receive a benefit, like an Amateur Radio License. This law was passed to help in tracking down tax scofflaws and “deadbeat” parents. Part of the paperwork you will fill out upon passing your exam is the FCC Form 605VEC. This form is where you provide your SSAN, TIN or FCC Registration Number (FRN). Once you are issued a license, you will use the FRN to do business with the FCC. We will protect your SSAN as though it were our own.
If you do not wish to provide your SSAN or TIN on the Form 605, you must register for an FRN before the exam session. Use this link and click on the Register button to obtain an FRN.
Items to bring to the exam session
♦ Government issued Photo ID, or two of the following forms of ID:
Minor children without ID should be accompanied by their parents who will provide ID and vouch for the children.
♦ Pen and Pencil – Pen for paperwork and pencil for the exam.
♦ Calculator – non-programmable and the memory must be cleared prior to the exam starting. Calculators are not required for the Technician exam, but may be useful for the General and Extra exams.
♦ A copy of the registration form - Click on the link below, fill out the PDF document online and print it out, or you can print it and fill it out by hand. The registration form has a check list of the items you will need to bring with you.
Registration forms will also be available at the exam session.
♦ The original and a copy of your current license if you are upgrading.
♦ The original and a copy of any valid CSCE's you have. CSCE's are valid for 365 days from date of issue.
The Fine Print
When you sign your NCVEC Form 605, one of the legal items you are acknowledging is that you have read and will COMPLY with Section 97.13(c) of the FCC Rules regarding RADIOFREQUENCY (RF) RADIATION SAFETY and the amateur service section of OST/OET Bulletin Number 65. A copy of the pertinent sections is provided below.
